Loving Vincent, egg-style

The egg chosen for this eggspress post has an obvious inspiration – Vincent van Gogh’s Wheatfield with Crows, painted in 1890.

But to be more eggsact, this egg, painted by Robyn H in 2018, was inspired by the movie Loving Vincent. This fascinating feature-length animated movie is a truly amazing achievement. Over 125 artists from around the world collaborated to create 65,000 oil-painted movie frames in van Gogh’s style. These were then used to tell the story of the last years of his life and to give a possible eggsplanation for his tragic death.

The director, Dorota Kobiela, was also a painter and decided to combine her love of film and her passion for painting.

As she puts it, she ‘decided to do so by taking Vincent at his word: the words written in his last letter: “We cannot speak other than by our paintings”. She embarked on making Loving Vincent, to bring his paintings to life to talk for him.’

SO… now we have a painted egg, inspired by a painted movie, inspired by an original oil-painting by Vincent van Gogh.

Eggstraordinary indeed!
