Happy Star Wars Day, friends!
Whether you’re a true fan or not, there’s no denying the eggstraordinary impact the Star Wars franchise has had on the world since the release of the first movie in 1977, Episode IV, A New Hope, just over 40 years ago. According to Alan Arnold, author of a book on the making of “The Empire Strikes Back”, the phrase was coined in 1979, when Margaret Thatcher came to power as Britain’s first female Prime Minister on the 4th of May. It then became the nickname used for Ronald Reagan’s 1983 Strategic Defense Initiative.
I remember that first movie, with its amazing special effects (well, back then they really were eggsceptional) and the wonderful storyline that had everyone desperately waiting for the next eggsciting episode. I first saw it in Perth, with my family, on one of our epic adventures over to the West (we drove over, with very patient parents and the five of us children crammed into one car). I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve seen it since.
Do we have an appropriate egg for such a salubrious day? Of course we do!
Thanks, Rob A, for this slightly blaster-damaged R2D2 goose egg, painted in 2013 – obviously been through a battle but ready to save a princess.
